The Independence Day of Sri Lanka

The Independence Day of Sri Lanka is celebrated annually on the 4th of February to commemorate the country’s political independence from the British rule in 1948. This day is celebrated in honour of our mighty freedom fighters who fought for our freedom and gave the country its independence. The 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated in Burhani Serendib School as well. The national flag was hoisted on the 31st of January by the Principal, Dr. Shabbir Hussain, assisted by the Games Captain and the traditional national anthem was sung by all those gathered. In a special assembly held on the 5th of February, the Head Prefect, Mustafa Kaidjohar, briefed the audience on the history of Sri Lanka and the independence movement against the British was especially recalled. Then, the junior school students spoke about our great mother country and everything that it has provided us with, and the proud children of Primary 1 waved our flags high in the air with respect and honour, paying tribute to the forefathers of the land for their glorious feat. The assembly ended with the singing of the National Anthem. This celebration caused the proud Sri Lankan in us to resurface and the commitment, bravery, national unity and determination to achieve peace was recollected in all our minds.
