Junior School

Millennia ago, Socrates claimed that, “To say ‘I know’ is to close one’s mind to knowledge”. Burhani Serendib School believes that learning is limitless; we strive together as a team towards our motto “Knowledge Is A Noble Legacy”. Our aim is to instill a thirst for learning that leads to the path of success as a lifelong learner.

We strive to mould our students into true and effective learners and individuals who always seek to broaden their perspectives and face life’s challenges with courage and conviction. At Burhani, we practice equality as proof of our belief that “Every Child Is a Star”. In order to achieve the holistic development of our stars, we use a student-centered, learner-friendly approach, widely known as inquiry-based learning where students are active participants of their learning and teachers support and play the role of a facilitator. Holistic education enables the students to grow intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially.

Our integrated curriculum and thoughtful planning bridges the link between each subject by relating the subject to students’ daily lives. We ensure our stars actively participate in the learning process and develop the skills and ability to make a significant contribution to society. Our goal is to develop skills as well as prepare them to start the journey of the Edexcel IGCSE Examination with confidence. Our foremost strength lies in the integration of digital media and ICT in an array of learning programs. Digital media and ICT in Burhani are shaping the methodology of delivering lessons by adding efficiency, convenience and interactivity.

MOTIVATIONAL TECHNIQUE

At Burhani, we aim to maintain a clear and continuing focus on teaching and learning with rewards and incentives to encourage students to succeed. In order to achieve our aim we have started a positive reinforcement policy. Privilege stickers are awarded to students for attributes like good behaviour, good language, being helpful and super commitment. A student having the most number of stickers is entitled to be the Student of Month. This practice is giving fruitful results in the overall development of our students.

ASSESSMENT STRATEGY

Junior school stars are our pride and we work hard to motivate them. We believe numbers and grades cannot judge a child’s potential by sitting for an exam once in a term. As we believe learning is a process, we practice assessment also as a process. Throughout the academic year on different occasions, students are assessed informally. Worksheets, projects, class participation, reinforcement worksheets are some of the methods of assessment used which are also skill-based.

STRUCTURE OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

Junior school from the year 2017 onward comprises of Primary 1 to Form 3 (Year 8). We strive to have a very good teacher-to-student ratio so that the students are given personal attention. Students of Primary 1 to Primary 3 are under the supervision of the class teacher. Primary 4 to Form 3 includes subject specialists.
