Robotics Workshop & Squad Selections 2024/25
The robotics workshop and selection program, organized in collaboration with MEU Labs, was successfully conducted at Burhani Serendib School. This initiative aimed to introduce students to the exciting field of robotics and identify talented individuals for further advanced training. The workshop was held in two distinct phases to cater to different age groups, ensuring tailored content and challenges for each level.
Phase 1 of the workshop focused on students from Form 2 to Upper 6. Held on the 17th and 31st August 2024, this phase allowed older students to delve deeper into robotics concepts, including hands-on activities with robotic kits and programming challenges. The participants showed great enthusiasm as they explored the mechanics and software behind modern robotic systems.
The selection process in this phase identified standout performers who exhibited both creativity and technical skills. These students are now eligible for further training programs offered by MEU Labs to hone their talents and explore advanced robotics concepts.
Phase 2 of the workshop, aimed at younger students from Primary 5 and Form 1, took place on 31st August 2024. This phase introduced the fundamentals of robotics in an engaging and accessible way, encouraging curiosity and interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The hands-on sessions provided the students with an opportunity to build simple robots, which sparked excitement and fostered teamwork.
Though less advanced, the selection process in this phase was designed to spot early talent and enthusiasm in robotics, setting the foundation for future development.
This year, the Robotics Squad was scaled up from 20 students to 24. Out of a total of 42 eligible participants, 24 students were selected on merit to join the Robotics Squad for the 2024/25 academic year. Following the success of the inaugural squad sessions, which sparked great interest in robotics, this year’s selections were closely contested, demonstrating the growing enthusiasm among students.
The Robotics Squad continues to pave the way for our students to achieve a holistic education in the fields of STEM, fostering not only technical skills but also creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
